Sources and credits
Every number on the map is rebuilt from the public sources below. Thank you to everyone who collected and shared them.
Data
| What | Source |
|---|---|
| Election results by polling station | Israel Central Elections Committee (CEC), official per-station results for the 25th Knesset (media25.bechirot.gov.il), cross-checked against the copy on data.gov.il. |
| Statistical area boundaries | Israel Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS), statistical areas 2022 (cbs.gov.il). Obtained as an unmodified copy of the CBS file from anatoly314/israeli-gis. |
| 2022 polling station addresses | Central Elections Committee, official list of polling stations for the 25th Knesset (27 October 2022), published on gov.il; copy from the Internet Archive. |
| Locating stations | Our own lookup of those addresses and venues in © OpenStreetMap contributors data (ODbL), from the Geofabrik extract. |
| Rough outlines for army bases and Bedouin tribes | © OpenStreetMap contributors, available under the Open Database Licence (ODbL), fetched through the Overpass API. |
| Who lives where | CBS Census 2022 population by statistical area, from the same anatoly314/israeli-gis mirror. |
| Housing and built-up land, settlement outlines | Land use from © OpenStreetMap contributors (ODbL): residential, industrial, commercial and campus land, used to tell lived-in from empty areas and to outline localities CBS gives only as placeholders. |
| West Bank outline | Natural Earth 1:10m map subunits (public domain). |
Inspiration
The layout and the colour rule are modelled on Sergei Kondrashov's map "Election results for the 25th Knesset by party by Statistical Area" (2022), published on the image under CC BY-NC-ND 4.0 (and on Wikimedia Commons under CC BY-SA 4.0). No part of that map, its image or its data is reused here. This site groups parties differently (see About the method).
Software
- MapLibre GL JS draws the map (BSD 3-Clause).
- PMTiles by Protomaps stores the map tiles in one file (BSD 3-Clause).
- mapbox-gl-rtl-text sets Hebrew town names right to left (BSD 2-Clause).
- Python: geopandas, shapely, pyogrio, pandas, mapbox-vector-tile and pmtiles prepare the data.
- Town names use Noto Sans (SIL Open Font License), in the glyph files published by Protomaps.
